Shakur Stevenson is in a long-term relationship with Joet Gonzalez's sister, causing bad blood between the pair
American featherweight Shakur Stevenson beat Joet Gonzalez - his girlfriend's brother - to win his maiden world title by unanimous call in Battle Born State.
The 22-year-old inflicted a primary defeat on his subject, taking the vacant WBO world title.
Stevenson is dating 26-year-old Gonzalez's sister Jajaira, who is estranged from her family as a result.
Gonzalez rejected Stevenson's plan to make up together with his family within the ring once the bout.
"I have nothing but respect for Joel. It was personal for him however business on behalf of me," Stevenson said.
"I told him he's a hell of a fighter, but he didn't want to talk to me."
All three judges scored the fight overwhelmingly in favor of unbeaten Stevenson, each scorecard reading 119-109.

The two fighters were unbroken apart once the ultimate bell, with the bad blood between the two corners spilling out into the ring, as Gonzalez said: "it was personal".
